Why a Gastro Bar?
The term “Gastro Bar” comes from the fusion of two ideas: “gastro,” short for gastronomy – the art of exceptional cooking – and “bar,” a relaxed social space centered on drinks, music, and conversation. Together, the concept describes a place where chef-driven cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails share equal importance. Originating in Europe, Gastro Bars focus on high-quality ingredients, refined flavors, and culinary creativity, all within an approachable, welcoming atmosphere.

Our Story
Salt & Sugar Gastro Bar was created to bring an elevated, European-inspired dining experience to the Cypress community. Located at 16010 West Rd in Houston, TX, we are an Italian gastronomy-forward and refined bar with handcrafted cocktails, live entertainment, and a warm, contemporary atmosphere designed for lingering.
Salt & Sugar was founded by Martin Garcia, a hospitality professional with years of experience in festivals, events, and culinary production. The restaurant opened on July 28, 2023, after Martin joined forces with Chef Alejandro Karam, whose culinary style blends Italian technique with thoughtful global inspiration. Together, they built a kitchen centered on fresh, in-house preparation, seasonal ingredients, and creativity you can taste in every dish.
Our menu features artisan pizzas, house-made pastas, seafood specialties, rich and flavorful risottos, gluten-free options, and an evolving lineup of handcrafted cocktails. Guest favorites include our calamari, meatballs, risotto formaggio e vino rosso, and signature chicken alfredo. We refresh our menu every two months with new seasonal dishes and drinks, keeping each visit as exciting as the last.
Salt & Sugar has quickly become a favorite for date nights, celebrations, brunch outings, and evenings with friends. With live music nights, Sunday brunch from 11 am–3 pm, weekday happy hour, patio dining, and late-night service on weekends, our space is designed for connection, conversation, and memorable moments.
Our 125-guest dining room and 20-seat patio also make us a popular destination for private events, intimate dinner parties, and catered gatherings.
